Laparoscopic Gastric BandingLose weight quickly and effortlessly with laparoscopic gastric banding As severe obesity continues to effect increasing numbers of people, laparoscopic gastric banding proves to be a safe and effective way to permanently achieve healthy weight control. Laproscopic gastric banding is recommended for those that are more than one hundred pounds overweight. Laparoscopic banding is a suggested type of severe obesity therapy for those that have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater. Laparoscopic gastric banding provides those suffering from severe obesity with the opportunity to improve their general health. People that are morbidly obese are much more likely to develop diabetes, hypertension and even cancer. Laproscopic gastric banding allows morbidly obese patients to safely meet their weight loss goals at the same time that they decrease their risk for these dangerous secondary diseases that are closely linked to obesity. Laparoscopic gastric banding works by restricting the amount of food that can be ingested by a person. A silicone band is placed around the stomach sectioning of a small portion of the upper stomach area. The amount of food that is taken in is further controlled because it must exit through the smaller opening at the bottom of the stomach. Therefore laparoscopic gastric banding produces a feeling of fullness after a laparoscopic banding patient eats even the smallest portions of food. Laproscopic gastric banding is an improvement on traditional gastric banding procedures. laparoscopic gastric banding is performed with a laparoscope or an endoscope so that fewer and much smaller incisions may be made. In traditional open bariatric surgery there is an increased risk of infection as well as lengthened recovery time. With laparoscopic gastric banding, patients are much more comfortable and heal from the bariatric surgery in much less time. One the main advantages of laparoscopic gastric banding is that the procedure can easily be reversed without additional surgery. Using a laparoscope, laparoscopic banding can be removed through a subcutaneous port. Also, laparoscopic gastric banding patients can easily adjust the gastric banding to make their stomach pouch larger or smaller, as needed. As with laparoscopic gastric banding reversal, laproscopic gastric banding can be easily adjusted during a simple office visit instead of corrective surgery. Saline is added to or removed from the inflatable laparoscopic gastric banding in order to decrease or increase, respectively, the size of a severe obesity patients stomach. This is especially important for women that may become pregnant and need to be able to take in larger amounts of food in order to maintain a healthy pregnancy. |
